Budget Waste Inc. (BDGW.OB) - The Adage Continues, One Man’s Junk is Still another Man’s Treasure

A dear colleague of ours, who once owned a restaurant in New York, always knew exactly how his competition was doing, simply by checking the amount of their garbage. No matter how good an owner said he was doing, if he wasn’t generating mountains of garbage, chances are he wasn’t doing much business. It’s ironic that in order for any growth to take place, a certain amount of refuse MUST be generated, and this waste has become both a problem and an opportunity.

First, the problem. We live in a world that’s bursting with population. Just the everyday goings on of life creates a certain amount of “refuse” whether in the form of paper, plastic, glass, organics, human waste, construction debris, you name it. Garbage, or waste that’s manufactured in any form, must be quickly and correctly disposed of. The days of taking trash “out back” and dumping it anywhere you like is long long gone and thank goodness. It took us too long a time to become better stewards of our environment. Today with the population growth, proximity to each other, and the ever growing and crowded suburbs, keeping the streets clean is of paramount importance. Diseases and health issues are something no township or municipality needs.

Now for the opportunity. If you simply look at the paragraph above, what you see isn’t really a problem. It’s a demand issue. As an investor, one of the criteria I use to measure the attractiveness of a company is the demand factor. Is there any? In the case of waste management, the answer couldn’t be easier. There is actually more demand than we have adequate services for.

The company that’s positioning itself to benefit from all this demand, and do it in a new and novel way is Budget Waste Inc.

Budget Waste Inc., trading under the symbol BDGW, is a waste solutions company in Western Canada providing complete waste and recycling services to commercial, industrial, construction, homebuilding, oilfield and residential clients. While that may sound relatively arcane on the surface, one would be hard pressed to find a company with the “scope” of services that BWI brings to the table. In fact, that’s the theme of this article.

By offering a total solution from pick up to sorting, to recycling, to site implementations, etc, they are able to be a “one stop shop” for companies, municipalities, and retail customers looking to solve their waste problems. By offering “cradle to grave” type solutions, BWI can effectively solve any waste management issue, and do it for a price that’s less than the competition. Why? Because the competition has to “hire out” subcontractors, and everyone’s hand is in the pie. BWI does it all in house, meaning less confusion, less accounting, less paper work, and more productivity.

When you can offer a complete solution to a specific problem, and do it in a way that saves the company/township/homeowner money, you are onto something quite special in the business world. You’re on your way to big profits. Budget Waste is onto something folks, and you should take the time to check out their unique approach to this demanding opportunity.

Budget Waste, Inc. (BDGW.PK) - Growth to Meet the Demand

When looking at investment companies, we like to be certain that there’s a demand for the product being offered. It’s not much of a consolation to be the very very best at something if only ten people in the whole world would ever need what you do. While investigating Budget Waste Inc. however, it was easy to see from the very inception that demand was not going to be a problem. Why? They offer a “one stop shop” approach to one of the world’s biggest dilemmas: How to get rid of the constant stream of garbage, and wastes that are produced every day. That’s not even expanding the idea to such areas as construction clean up, demolition clean up, job site maintenance, environmental fencing, portable sanitation facilities, etc. As we can see, the demand side of the equation, is built in.

Budget Waste Inc. (trading under the symbol BDGW) is addressing this demand head on with a growth strategy that makes perfect sense in a modern world. Utilizing a two pronged approach, they are growing organically, from the inside out, but they are also aggressively acquiring other waste management companies that strategically fit their unique business concepts. This has worked quite well for them as they strive to achieve their overall business goals.

BWI’s strategy is to expand both existing services and add related services throughout North America to position BWI as the only National Complete Waste Solutions Company. While that’s a lofty goal, BWI has stayed true to their word, and has just completed an unheard of 13 acquisitions in just over 2 years. But it’s their “next one” that’s got some real interesting sides to it.

In filings, Budget has made it public that they intend to buy Broadband Communications Services Inc. On the surface, one might ask what does a waste company need with a broadband company, but that’s not really the issue. BBCS (as we call it) has been in business over 15 years and its customer base is comprised of large, corporate entities such as Sprint, Windstream, Verizon, AT&T and Lincoln Electric. Management of BBCS has disclosed to Budget that approximate gross revenues in 2007 were $7,300,000, with asset value of approximately $3,200,000 as of December 31, 2007.

BBCS has a number of current and long-term contracts that help to ensure continued revenue growth and profitability. Some of the contracts BBCS is working on include the placement of a large ethanol pipeline and a water distribution system in the USA. BBCS has represented that these contracts could provide up to an additional $15-20 million in annual revenues for the following 3 years or so. Additionally, BBCS has advised that it plans to complete negotiations for placing utility infrastructure for a large corporate client in South America.

So again, where’s the connection? Right here; BBCS is currently involved in underground construction operations with multiple clients and has operations in several States. These operations frequently involve hydro vac construction and vacuum truck services. BWI is also currently involved in hydro vac and vacuum truck operations throughout its service area. Expansion into BBCS’s current service area would give BWI an instant foothold into the US and possibly into South America.
While BBCS does not currently operate Waste and Recycling services, they are involved in the construction industry, an area in which BWI has vast experience, providing waste hauling, recycling, portable sanitation services and site security (temporary fencing). The potential for vertical integration involving these services can likely have a very positive effect on the organic growth of BWI. Additionally the potential addition of operations and clients from BBCS will benefit BWI not only by providing an increased customer base, but also diversifies its operations which will reduce the impact of economic fluctuations among different markets

BBCS is a great fit, it generates revenues, it gets BWI a foothold into the states, and leverages their client list to their advantage. Growth acquisitions like that is enough to get our attention every day, and we feel it’s a good idea that it gets your attention too. Budget Waste is creating waves in the waste management business, and doing it in a very spectacular way. Continue to watch this outfit for more tremendous news.

Budget Waste, Inc. (BDGW.PK) - Demand, Plus Growth, Equals Revenues

We have discussed the idea of examining a company from the perspective of demand for its services and/or products. We’ve also discussed the concept behind any growth strategies the company might employ. Finally we need to see dollars coming in the door, and in the instance of Budget Waste Inc, (trading under the symbol BDGW), we have just gotten the holy grail delivered.

Just a few days ago, on February 27th, BWI announced the following: “For the nine months ended December 31, 2007, the Company reported revenues of $12,129M (”M” representing thousands), an increase of $4,882M, or 67.4%, from $7,247M in the nine months ended December 31, 2006. While the company instituted price increases during the nine months which included fuel surcharges, the greatest growth was from the effect of the acquisition of five of the thirteen companies acquired during the last two years.”

Did you catch the increase? 67.4%, on a year over year basis. That is stellar revenue growth, almost unheard of in a company trading at the level it’s trading at. Yet, as amazing as this report was, they backed it up just five days later with another stunning report.

“BWI is pleased to announce that a projected increase in revenues of 55% should be reached for the current year ending March 31, 2008. BWI has generated an average monthly income of $1,350,000 for the first 9 months of 2007, this calculates into year end revenue of approximately $16,200,000. This represents an increase of approximately $5,759,000 over the previous year’s income of $10,441,000.”

So here we have a company that’s growing organically and by strategic acquisitions. They are seeing revenue growth in the 55 to 65% range, and they expect to see over 16 million dollars in revenues for their fiscal year. That is an incredible amount of money folks, and with growth rates like that, it’s not hard to think that this company is going to attract a lot more attention than they have so far. Once more of the investing public gets a chance to digest those figures, they may reward the company by stepping up their investing allotment.

It’s truly not often when we can find a company in a market niche with massive demand that’s growing quickly and taking in “bigger cap” type revenues. This time we’ve got one and everyone owes it to themselves to take a look.

Budget Waste Inc. (BDGW.PK) Puts a Green Foot Forward

As the push for increased recycling continues, more households in Canada and the U.S. are recycling than ever before. According to the latest polls, conducted in 2006, about 97 percent of Canada’s single-family households take advantage of recycling programs in their area. About 95 percent of apartment dwellers take part in environmental conservation as well.

According to the Waste Management Industry Survey, in 2004, approximately 13.4 million tons of waste were picked up from households, a 65 percent increase from 2000. While households with access to recycling programs are more apt to take advantage of conservation efforts, many households do not have sufficient access to recycling facilities.

Budget Waste Inc. (Pink Sheets: BDGW) is a waste solutions company in Western Canada providing complete waste and recycling services to commercial, industrial, construction, homebuilding, oilfield and residential clients. The company offers a weekly domestic garbage pick up to rural areas in Calgary and surrounding areas.

Aside from its other construction related services, Budge Waste offers recycling solutions to “encourage environmentally sustainable waste management practices.” Taking recycling a step further, the company participates in construction and demolition programs such as Built Green Alberta and Go Green, both aimed to promote waste diversion and recycling.

Budget Waste Inc. (BDGW.PK) Projects 55% increase in Annual Year-End Revenue

In many markets, it’s all about the business model a company decides to follow. Choose the correct type, and a steady and predictable outcome can be expected. Choose another type, and a more dynamic and potentially very rewarding outcome can occur. Imagination is the key to success with the latter while the mundane is the limiting reward of the former.

Budget Waste Inc., a waste solutions company based in Western Canada, has been experiencing tremendous growth since its founding as a local waste services company. While many companies of this type have chosen to adopt the static model, Budget Waste has chosen instead to pursue a more aggressive growth model directed toward traditional market penetration with affiliated market acquisition and vertical integration.

This particular growth model has proven to be financially rewarding for the company, which is now seeing its services and products expanding within traditional markets. Currently, opening new territories in Canada, the U.S. and even beyond are very likely through acquisition and new product/service offerings. What is particularly interesting about the company’s model is the way it uses current service offerings to drive a wedge into new, vertical markets. For example, from its base in the waste services sector, it projects additional uses (and consequent additional revenue) in other sectors.

Most people think waste removal is limited to a certain set of services. Budget Waste doesn’t. The company enters the construction market through its waste contracts, then goes on to provide additional services like security fencing. It has found unique transportation opportunities through construction companies using unconventional and relatively new techniques designed to build underground infrastructure. Generally, the company gets its foot into a market with its waste business and spreads from there in whichever direction it feels fits the company’s model.

Revenue reporting appears to support the company’s adoption of its current model. At the end of the company’s third quarter (December 31, 2007), an increase of $4.8 million in income (or 67% over the same period a year earlier) was seen. Year-end results match that rapid growth, with the company posting a projected 55% gain in revenues. With its waste infrastructure in place, the company has many different markets to choose from for further expansion. At this point, it just needs to maintain its exceptional service reputation and pick a new market to tap or buy into.

Budget Waste Inc. (BDGW.PK) Has Come a Long Way Since 2001

Budget Waste, founded in 2001, was created to provide affordable waste management to commercial and residential customers. Since its humble beginnings, it has grown significantly, acquiring thirteen new companies and growing its market area considerably.

Acquisitions have added a lot of profitability to the company, helping it grow as fast as it has. These acquisitions have aided diversification into other related fields such as water removal and constructions site services, increasing the number and viability of revenue streams.

The company has acquired three water hauling companies over the past 8 years. Last year, it acquired 4M Water Hauling. In 2006, it acquired two leaders in water removal services. Provac, one of the largest liquid hauling companies in the Calgary area, was one such acquisition. Budget Waste operates seven of the latest Hydro-Vac trucks and serves many municipal customers, as well as oil fields. The other water hauling company acquired, Finnie Water Hauling Ltd, is fully focused on oil field and construction site cleanup with a guarantee of safety and professionalism.

Kosland Waste Removal Ltd is another company that has helped Budget Waste expand its product offerings. Kosland provides waste disposal to rural customers in Calgary, opening up a niche market for BDGW, which also acquired Construction Services Ltd, a rural waste disposal company based in the Alberta marketplace. Budget Waste also operates Hydro-Vac of Alberta.

To expand its offering to construction customers, the company acquired All Waste Systems Ltd and DB Waste Disposal Inc. All Waste Ltd is a leader in construction waste management boasting a fleet of 1300 bins and 15 trucks. The acquisition of DB allowed the company to offer portable toilet services to its customers, furthering its service offering with a trusted supplier having over 52 years of experience.

Rocky Mountain Waste Inc., another acquisition, is a leading residential waste hauler that serves 9000 homes. Recently the company also diversified into recycling services by acquiring PJ’s Waste and Recycling Services.

The company has come a long way from its single truck back in 2001, the year it was founded. The growth pattern has been excellent, and Budget Waste continues to diversify and grow the portfolio of their businesses and products. Such rapid expansion will likely put them on the map as a major, national waste disposal company within the decade.

I have been hearing from friends that they want to get back to only what they need and jettison other "trash" from their homes. The small waste container market could really take off from this perspective. Hear this one is also a bit more broad based in its endevours in trash removeal
